2018 was a banner year for the Horsham Community Choir. We turned one year old, we began performing and our numbers grew.

Back in April, we passed our one-year mark, and had a “gentle” introduction into performing when a goodly portion of the choir took up the Hallelujah Challenge, which saw us taking part in a Come and Sing Messiah event held at St. Margaret’s Church in Warnham. It was “gentle” in that it gave the choir the opportunity to see what it was like to perform in front of people, while providing the safety and security of 90 other people singing along with us. The actual event, which involved hours of practice and a rather lengthy performance, was something less than “gentle,” but it was all good fun.

After that, we preformed—all 16 of us—at the Horsham Day of Music in May, and again at Arun Care Home in September.

We had two performances over the 2018 Christmas season and had to turn a few down as everyone was so busy. This coming year, I hope to get the bookings done earlier so we can schedule more in.

We ended our Christmas Season with a performance at The Coot, where a respectably large number of locals huddled under a tent with us as wind howled and rain lashed down and we did our best to entertain them, while simultaneously holding down the sides of the tent so it didn’t blow away. We all had a great time, however, and I can only hope our performances of 2019 are as memorable.

Also in 2018, our numbers grew and we are now a 20-voice choir.

For this coming year, I hope to further increase our numbers and introduce more fun, and entertaining, songs.

2019 holds the promise of more performances, more members and more fun. Why not come along for the ride?

We meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 in the Unitarian Church, Worthing Rd, Horsham RH12 1SL (Across from the Bus Station)
